“Seniors by the Sea” is an annual celebration that highlights the achievements and lives of Brooklyn’s elderly population, and also congratulates our “golden couples” who have been together for over 50 years—an incredible achievement that is a testament to commitment, love and mutual respect.
Through this important event, we want to emphasize taking care of our older residents across financial security, healthcare and housing, among other issues. In particular, many of our seniors are living in vulnerable conditions, oftentimes alone and depending on limited pensions to survive. This event is meant to highlight the multitude of services available to them at no cost.
In addition, we want to bring seniors together to enjoy a day of dance, delicious food and musical entertainment, and that’s really what this is all about—to celebrate our elders and have a good time. We hope to make it an even bigger celebration next year for the event’s fifth anniversary.
